Which ancient structure in Egypt is the oldest surviving Wonder of the Ancient World?
Answer
Great Pyramid of Giza
Answer
Great Pyramid of Giza
The Great Pyramid of Giza is the oldest surviving Wonder of the Ancient World.
Built as a tomb for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, the pyramid was completed around 2560 BCE on the Giza Plateau. It originally stood about 146.6 meters tall and was the world’s tallest human-made structure for roughly 3,800 years.
The pyramid was constructed from millions of stone blocks, mainly limestone, with granite used in important interior areas. Its original smooth outer casing has mostly disappeared, leaving the stepped appearance seen today. The complex also includes smaller pyramids and associated temples.
The other six traditional wonders no longer survive as complete structures. The Great Pyramid is sometimes called the Pyramid of Cheops, using the Greek form of Khufu’s name. It should not be confused with the Great Sphinx, which is a separate monument at Giza.
