Which ancient Persian religion taught the cosmic opposition between Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu?

The story behind the answer

Zoroastrianism taught the cosmic opposition between Ahura Mazda and Angra Mainyu.

Zoroastrianism is an ancient Iranian religion associated with the prophet Zoroaster, called Zarathustra in Iranian languages. Its theology centers on Ahura Mazda, the wise lord and source of truth, wisdom, and order. Angra Mainyu, also called Ahriman in later usage, represents destructive opposition.

The religion emphasizes a moral choice between truth and falsehood, often expressed through good thoughts, good words, and good deeds. Fire is an important ritual symbol of purity and divine illumination, although Zoroastrians do not simply worship fire as a god.

Scholars debate how fully later dualistic formulations can be projected onto the earliest teachings. The Avesta is the principal surviving body of Zoroastrian scripture, but it was compiled over a long period. Zoroastrian communities remain active today, especially in India and Iran.
