Which ancient monument in Egypt is the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World?

The story behind the answer

The Great Pyramid of Giza is the only surviving Wonder of the Ancient World.

Built as a tomb for the Egyptian pharaoh Khufu, the pyramid was completed around 2560 BCE on the Giza Plateau. It was originally about 146.6 metres high and remained the tallest human-made structure in the world for thousands of years. Most of its outer limestone casing was later removed, leaving the stepped core visible today.

The Great Pyramid is the largest of the three main pyramids at Giza. The nearby Pyramid of Khafre can appear taller because it stands on higher ground and retains some casing stones at its top. The other six traditional wonders, including the Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Statue of Zeus at Olympia, were destroyed by earthquakes, fire, war, or gradual decay. The monument is therefore both a royal tomb and an exceptional survival from the ancient world.
