Which ancient Korean kingdom is named in the traditional Gabae origin story of Chuseok?

The story behind the answer

Silla is the ancient Korean kingdom named in the traditional Gabae origin story of Chuseok.

The account says that Silla’s King Yuri arranged a month-long weaving competition between two groups of women. The contest concluded on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month, a date associated with the later Chuseok festival. The story appears in the Samguk sagi, a major historical record of Korea’s Three Kingdoms period.

Silla was one of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, alongside Goguryeo and Baekje. It eventually unified much of the Korean Peninsula in the seventh century. Chuseok’s origins are more complex than the Gabae story alone, because harvest celebrations, moon observance, family gatherings, and ancestor rites all contributed to the holiday’s development.

Goryeo was a later Korean dynasty, not one of the kingdoms named in this particular origin story.
