Which Korean lunar-calendar month contains Chuseok?

The story behind the answer

Chuseok takes place in the eighth month of the Korean lunar calendar.

More precisely, Chuseok is observed on the fifteenth day of that month. The date corresponds to the full moon, which is why Chuseok is closely connected with harvest celebrations, family gatherings, and moon imagery.

Because the Korean lunar calendar and the Gregorian calendar are different systems, the Gregorian date changes each year. Chuseok generally falls in September or October. The lunar-month rule remains stable even when the Western-calendar date moves.

The first lunar month belongs to Seollal, the Korean Lunar New Year, while Dano takes place in the fifth lunar month. These are separate traditional holidays. The eighth-month placement is one of the clearest ways to distinguish Chuseok from those festivals.
