Ancient Egypt provides the primary setting for Assassin's Creed Origins.
The game is set mainly during the first century BCE, a period when Egypt was ruled by the Ptolemaic dynasty. Its protagonist, Bayek of Siwa, is a Medjay who becomes involved in political and personal conflicts that lead to the creation of the Hidden Ones. Players travel through regions including Siwa, Alexandria, Memphis, and the Nile Delta.
Origins depicts famous landmarks and historical figures, including Cleopatra VII, Julius Caesar, and the Great Sphinx. The setting is not the same as Assassin's Creed Odyssey, which focuses on ancient Greece during the fifth century BCE. Origins is also significant within the franchise because it explains the fictional beginnings of the Assassin Brotherhood while presenting a large open-world version of Egypt.
