Which American League award did Aaron Judge win in 2017?

The story behind the answer

Aaron Judge won the American League Rookie of the Year Award in 2017. The award, formally called the Jackie Robinson American League Rookie of the Year Award, recognized his outstanding first full MLB season with the New York Yankees.

Judge won unanimously, receiving every first-place vote from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America. He batted .284, scored 128 runs, drove in 114 runs and hit 52 home runs in 155 games. His home-run total broke Mark McGwire’s previous major-league rookie record of 49, set in 1987.

The award is sometimes confused with the AL Most Valuable Player Award, which Judge did not win in 2017; Houston’s José Altuve won that honor. Judge finished second in the MVP voting. He later won the AL MVP Award in 2022, the same season he set the league’s single-season home-run record.
