In which round of the 2013 MLB draft was Aaron Judge selected?
Answer
First round
Answer
First round
Aaron Judge was selected in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft. The New York Yankees chose the towering right-handed hitter with the 32nd overall pick, using a compensatory selection awarded after Nick Swisher signed with another team.
Judge had played college baseball at Fresno State, where his size and power made him an intriguing prospect despite needing refinement as a hitter. After signing, he received a $1.8 million bonus but missed most of his first professional season after tearing his quadriceps during a baserunning drill.
A common mix-up is confusing Judge’s draft round with his later rise through the Yankees’ farm system. He was not a late-round discovery: the Yankees invested a first-round pick in him, then developed him through the minor leagues before his major-league debut in 2016. The same draft also produced several notable players, including Mark Appel, Kris Bryant and Matt Olson.
