Which American artist married photographer Alfred Stieglitz in 1924?

The story behind the answer

Georgia O'Keeffe married photographer Alfred Stieglitz in 1924.

Stieglitz first encountered O'Keeffe's abstract charcoal drawings through photographs sent to him by artist and educator Anita Pollitzer. He exhibited the drawings at his New York gallery, commonly known as 291, in 1916 and presented O'Keeffe's first solo exhibition there in 1917.

Their relationship became both personal and professionally important. Stieglitz made hundreds of photographs of O'Keeffe, while she became a major figure among the modern artists he promoted. They married on December 24, 1924.

The marriage lasted until Stieglitz's death in 1946. O'Keeffe later established a more independent life in New Mexico, although Stieglitz's photographs and correspondence remain central to the documented story of her career.
