Which Amazon division provides the cloud platform known as AWS?

The story behind the answer

Amazon Web Services provides Amazon’s cloud platform known as AWS.

Amazon Web Services offers computing power, storage, databases, networking, analytics, machine learning, and other internet-based services. Customers can rent these resources on demand instead of buying and maintaining all the necessary physical hardware themselves.

AWS officially launched in 2006 with services including Amazon Simple Storage Service, known as S3, and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud, known as EC2. The division grew from Amazon’s internal effort to standardize and reuse its technology infrastructure.

AWS is a business division of Amazon, not a separate consumer subscription service. Amazon Prime mainly concerns shopping, video, music, and other customer benefits. AWS serves startups, governments, universities, and large corporations, and its cloud infrastructure operates through data centers organized into geographic regions and availability zones.
