The alternative science-fiction film Limitless features the fictional drug NZT-48. Neil Burger directed the 2011 film, which stars Bradley Cooper as writer Eddie Morra.
In the story, NZT-48 gives Eddie access to an extraordinary level of mental performance, allowing him to recall information and recognize patterns with unusual speed. The drug initially appears to solve his personal and professional problems, but its side effects and criminal connections create escalating danger.
Limitless is based on Alan Glynn's 2001 novel The Dark Fields. The film's visual style changes when Eddie takes the drug, using brighter colors and rapid movement to represent his heightened perception. A television series titled Limitless premiered in 2015 and continued the story in a separate format.
