Which alternative rock singer released the 1993 album 'Rid of Me'?

The story behind the answer

Alternative rock singer PJ Harvey released the 1993 album Rid of Me.

It was Harvey's second studio album and followed her 1992 debut Dry. The record was produced by Steve Albini, whose raw recording approach emphasized abrupt dynamics, abrasive guitar sounds, and intimate vocals. The sessions took place at Pachyderm Studio in Minnesota.

Rid of Me helped establish Harvey as one of the most distinctive songwriters in alternative rock. Its songs often move sharply between restraint and explosive noise, creating a tense, physical sound. The title track, “Rid of Me,” became one of the album's signature performances.

The album is sometimes mixed up with Is This Desire?, another PJ Harvey record from the 1990s. Rid of Me came earlier, in 1993, and is especially associated with Albini's stark production. Harvey later won the Mercury Prize twice, including for Stories from the City, Stories from the Sea.
