Which alternative rock band released the 1991 debut album 'Ten'?
Answer
Pearl Jam
Answer
Pearl Jam
Pearl Jam released the 1991 debut album “Ten.” The American rock band’s first studio album arrived on August 27, 1991, through Epic Records and became one of the defining records of the Seattle grunge era.
The album grew out of the breakup of Mother Love Bone. Bassist Jeff Ament and guitarist Stone Gossard began developing new instrumental material with guitarist Mike McCready. A demo eventually reached vocalist Eddie Vedder and drummer Dave Krusen, who joined the emerging group. The album’s title, “Ten,” referred to basketball player Mookie Blaylock’s jersey number; the band was initially known as Mookie Blaylock before adopting the name Pearl Jam.
Recorded at London Bridge Studio in Seattle in March and April 1991, “Ten” combines grunge heaviness with dramatic songwriting and memorable guitar work. Its best-known songs include “Alive,” “Even Flow,” “Jeremy,” and “Black.” Although it was not an instant chart-topper, sustained radio play and touring made it a major commercial success.
A common mix-up is placing “Ten” after Nirvana’s “Nevermind.” Both albums were released in 1991, but Pearl Jam’s debut came first, in August; “Nevermind” followed in September.
