Which alternative rock band from Seattle is known for the 1991 album 'Nevermind'?

The story behind the answer

The alternative rock band from Seattle known for the 1991 album Nevermind was Nirvana.

Nirvana formed in Aberdeen, Washington, but became closely associated with Seattle’s grunge scene. The band’s second studio album, Nevermind, was released on September 24, 1991, by DGC Records. It was the group’s major-label debut and the first Nirvana album to feature drummer Dave Grohl.

Produced by Butch Vig, Nevermind combined punk energy, heavy guitar sounds, and unusually catchy melodies. The single “Smells Like Teen Spirit” became a defining song of the early 1990s and helped move grunge and alternative rock into the mainstream. Other notable tracks include “Come as You Are,” “Lithium,” and “In Bloom.”

People sometimes confuse Nirvana with other Seattle-area grunge bands such as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains. Those bands were contemporaries, but Nevermind belongs specifically to Nirvana. Its success also made frontman Kurt Cobain one of alternative rock’s most influential figures.
