The alternative band whose 2010 album The Suburbs won the Grammy for Album of the Year was Arcade Fire.
The Suburbs was Arcade Fire’s third studio album, released on August 3, 2010, by Merge Records. The album explores suburban life, memory, adolescence, urban expansion, and the feeling of growing up in places that can seem both familiar and emotionally isolating.
Produced by the band with Markus Dravs, The Suburbs debuted at number one in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. At the 53rd Grammy Awards in 2011, it won Album of the Year, making Arcade Fire the first Canadian band to win that category. The album also earned the band recognition at the Juno Awards, BRIT Awards, and Polaris Music Prize.
A frequent mix-up is confusing the album’s release year with the award year: The Suburbs came out in 2010, but it won Album of the Year at the 2011 Grammy Awards. Its title track and “We Used to Wait” were among its best-known songs.
