Björk released the 1997 album Homogenic. It was the Icelandic artist’s third studio album and one of her most influential alternative electronic records.
The album combines orchestral strings, electronic beats, vocal experimentation, and Icelandic-inspired atmosphere. Björk worked with producers including Mark Bell, Guy Sigsworth, and Howie B. Its songs include “Jóga,” “Bachelorette,” “Hunter,” and “All Is Full of Love.”
Homogenic was built around a contrast between organic and synthetic sounds. The string arrangements suggest traditional musical textures, while the programmed rhythms and unusual production give the album a distinctly futuristic character. It reached number 28 on the UK Albums Chart.
Homogenic is sometimes confused with Debut, Björk’s first solo album after leaving The Sugarcubes. Debut appeared in 1993 and introduced her international solo career, while Homogenic presented a more unified and experimental sound.
