Which album won Johnny Cash the 1995 Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album?
Answer
American Recordings
Answer
American Recordings
Johnny Cash won the 1995 Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album for American Recordings.
Produced by Rick Rubin, the 1994 album presented Cash in a stripped-down setting, often accompanied only by his voice and acoustic guitar. The approach emphasized interpretation, storytelling, and emotional directness rather than the full-band arrangements associated with many of his earlier records.
The album marked a major late-career revival for Cash and introduced his work to many listeners from outside traditional country audiences. Its material included songs by contemporary writers as well as Cash’s own compositions.
A frequent mix-up is Unchained, the 1996 album that won Cash another Grammy, this time for Best Country Album. American Recordings began the Rubin-produced American series; it was not the same release as the later American II, American III, or American IV albums.
