Psychocandy was The Jesus and Mary Chain’s 1985 debut album and features “Just Like Honey.”
The Scottish band, led by brothers Jim and William Reid, combined short pop melodies with heavy guitar feedback and deliberately abrasive noise. That contrast made Psychocandy an influential record in alternative rock and an important precursor to later shoegaze.
“Just Like Honey” closes the album and is one of the band’s most recognized songs. The track’s drum-machine rhythm, layered guitars and vocal harmonies show how the group placed accessible songwriting inside a wall of distortion.
Psychocandy is sometimes confused with Darklands, the band’s 1987 second album. Darklands reduced the feedback and used more acoustic textures, while Psychocandy is especially associated with the group’s noisy debut sound.
