Which album was the first full-length release by the Cramps, issued in 1980?
Answer
Songs the Lord Taught Us
Answer
Songs the Lord Taught Us
Songs the Lord Taught Us was the Cramps’ first full-length album, issued in 1980.
The Cramps developed a distinctive blend of punk energy, rockabilly rhythms, garage rock, and horror imagery. Singer Lux Interior and guitarist Poison Ivy formed the creative core of the group, whose flamboyant performances helped define the emerging psychobilly scene.
The album includes “Human Fly,” “Garbageman,” and “Strychnine.” It was produced by Alex Chilton, formerly of Big Star, whose involvement linked the Cramps to the broader American underground. Later albums such as Psychedelic Jungle and A Date with Elvis are sometimes mistaken for the debut, but Songs the Lord Taught Us is the group’s first LP.
