Which album by the Fugees won the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album?

The story behind the answer

The Fugees album that won the 1997 Grammy Award for Best Rap Album was The Score.

Released on February 13, 1996, The Score was the Fugees’ second and final studio album. The group consisted of Wyclef Jean, Lauryn Hill, and Pras Michel. Its sound combined rap, soul, reggae, and sampled material, giving the trio a broad international audience.

The album produced major singles including “Fu-Gee-La,” “Ready or Not,” and “Killing Me Softly.” The last of these reworked a song associated with Roberta Flack and became one of the Fugees’ biggest commercial successes. The Score reached number one on the Billboard 200 and was later certified diamond in the United States.

At the 39th Grammy Awards in 1997, The Score won Best Rap Album. The group disbanded soon afterward, with all three members pursuing separate careers. Lauryn Hill’s next major album was her 1998 solo debut, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
