Which airline was the launch operator of the Boeing 787-9 in 2014?
Answer
Air New Zealand
Answer
Air New Zealand
Air New Zealand was the launch operator of the Boeing 787-9 in 2014.
The airline began 787-9 service in October 2014, making it the first carrier to operate the stretched version of Boeing’s Dreamliner family. The initial aircraft served routes from Auckland, including international services in the Pacific region.
The 787-9 is longer than the original 787-8 and can carry more passengers while retaining the family’s long-range capability. Its composite structure, efficient engines and lower cabin altitude were central features of the Dreamliner design.
All Nippon Airways operated the first 787-8 passenger flight in 2011, which is why the launch airline for the 787-9 is sometimes confused with the launch operator for the overall 787 family. Air New Zealand introduced the longer -9 variant commercially.
