Air France was the first airline to operate the Boeing 777-300ER in passenger service.
Air France introduced the 777-300ER in 2004, making it the launch operator for the long-range version of Boeing’s largest twin-engine 777 variant. The aircraft was developed from the 777-300 with stronger structure, larger fuel capacity, improved engines, and increased range.
The 777-300ER became one of the most successful long-haul wide-body aircraft ever produced. Its combination of capacity, range, and two-engine efficiency made it attractive for routes that previously required four-engine aircraft such as the Boeing 747 or Airbus A340. Airlines around the world used it for high-demand intercontinental services.
Air France’s launch operation is separate from the introduction of the original 777. That earlier model entered airline service with United Airlines in 1995. It is also separate from the 777-200LR, another long-range variant with a shorter fuselage and different operating profile.
