Which airline operated the first nonstop commercial flight from Australia to Europe in 2018?

The story behind the answer

Qantas operated the first nonstop commercial flight from Australia to Europe in 2018.

Qantas Flight 9 flew from Perth to London on March 24, 2018, using a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. The flight covered roughly 14,500 kilometres and took about 17 hours, depending on conditions.

The service was significant because earlier Australia–Europe journeys normally required a stop in Asia or the Middle East. The 787’s range and fuel efficiency made the route economically and operationally feasible.

This route is often confused with Qantas’s later Project Sunrise plans, which concern nonstop flights from Australia to cities such as London and New York using Airbus A350 aircraft. Perth–London was already a scheduled nonstop service, but it was not the world’s longest passenger flight.
