Which airline operated the first commercial flight of the Embraer E-Jet family in 2004?

The story behind the answer

LOT Polish Airlines operated the first commercial flight of the Embraer E-Jet family in 2004.

LOT introduced the Embraer 170 into scheduled passenger service in March 2004, making it the first airline to fly an E-Jet commercially. The aircraft was designed for regional and shorter mainline routes, with a two-by-two passenger cabin that eliminated middle seats.

The E-Jet family eventually included the E170, E175, E190, and E195. Embraer positioned these aircraft between traditional regional jets and larger narrow-body airliners, allowing airlines to match capacity more closely to demand.

The E-Jets became especially successful with airlines in North America, Europe, and Asia. The first flight is sometimes confused with the later E190 introduction, but LOT’s launch aircraft was the smaller E170. The family later evolved into the E-Jets E2 generation, which introduced newer engines and aerodynamic improvements.
