Which airline operated the first commercial flight of the Boeing 767 in 1982?
Answer
United Airlines
Answer
United Airlines
United Airlines operated the first commercial Boeing 767 flight on September 8, 1982.
The aircraft was a Boeing 767-200, and United’s inaugural service connected Chicago O’Hare with Denver. The 767 was designed as a wide-body twin-engine airliner, making it significantly more economical than earlier three-engine and four-engine wide-bodies on many routes.
The 767 became important because it combined long-range capability with lower operating costs. Its two-person glass cockpit also helped establish a new generation of flight-deck design. The aircraft family later expanded to include the longer 767-300 and freighter versions.
American Airlines became the first airline to operate the 767-200ER, while British Airways later became a major operator. The 767 should not be confused with the smaller single-aisle 757, which was developed alongside it and entered service with Eastern Air Lines in 1983.
