Which agency conducted the Apollo program?
Answer
NASA
Answer
NASA
NASA conducted the Apollo program.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration created and managed Apollo as the United States’ human lunar-exploration program. President John F. Kennedy’s 1961 challenge to land astronauts on the Moon before the decade ended gave the effort its defining goal, and NASA coordinated the spacecraft, launch vehicles, astronaut corps, mission control and scientific operations.
Apollo was not carried out by NASA alone in the practical sense. Thousands of engineers, scientists and technicians worked for contractors and research institutions, including North American Aviation, Grumman, Boeing, MIT’s Instrumentation Laboratory and many other organizations. Those partners built major hardware and software under NASA direction.
The program achieved its first crewed lunar landing with Apollo 11 in July 1969. Six missions landed astronauts on the Moon, and Apollo 17 made the final landing in December 1972. Roscosmos, JAXA and ESA are different space agencies and were not the agency responsible for Apollo.
