Which African country is home to the Serengeti National Park?

The story behind the answer

Tanzania is the African country home to Serengeti National Park.

Serengeti National Park lies in northern Tanzania and protects approximately 14,750 square kilometres of grassland, woodland, and savanna. It is internationally known for large populations of lions, cheetahs, elephants, giraffes, and other wildlife, as well as the annual movement of wildebeest and zebra across the wider Serengeti–Mara ecosystem.

The park was established in 1951. Its name comes from a Maasai word often translated as “the place where the land runs on forever,” reflecting the open plains. The park borders the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and extends toward Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve.

The migration crosses an international boundary, which can cause confusion about its location. Serengeti National Park itself is in Tanzania, while Maasai Mara is in Kenya. The animals move through both countries at different stages of their annual search for grazing and water.
