McDonald’s introduced “I’m Lovin’ It” in 2003 as a global advertising slogan and major rebranding campaign.
The campaign began internationally in 2003 and was designed to create a more consistent voice across McDonald’s markets. Its wording was conversational and positive, presenting the brand as part of enjoyable everyday experiences rather than focusing only on speed or price.
The slogan became especially recognizable through its short musical phrase, often called the “ba da ba ba ba” jingle. Justin Timberlake appeared in an early campaign advertisement, while the phrase was associated with music production and worldwide promotional materials.
“I’m Lovin’ It” is sometimes confused with earlier McDonald’s slogans such as “You Deserve a Break Today.” The distinction is chronological: the earlier campaigns belonged to different advertising eras, while “I’m Lovin’ It” became the company’s long-running global platform in the 21st century.
