Which actress was the lifelong muse and friend of Hubert de Givenchy?

The story behind the answer

Audrey Hepburn was the lifelong muse and friend of Hubert de Givenchy.

They met in 1953 when Hepburn visited Givenchy while seeking costumes for Sabrina. Givenchy initially thought “Miss Hepburn” meant Katharine Hepburn, but the meeting instead began one of fashion and cinema’s most influential partnerships. The designer created clothes for Hepburn both on screen and in her personal life.

Their collaboration included Sabrina, Funny Face, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Charade, Paris When It Sizzles and How to Steal a Million. The little black dress associated with Breakfast at Tiffany’s became one of the defining images of twentieth-century film fashion.

Hepburn’s connection to Givenchy extended beyond clothing. In 1957 she became the face of L’Interdit, a fragrance created for her, helping establish the practice of using a movie star in perfume advertising. Other actresses and public figures wore Givenchy, but none had Hepburn’s uniquely enduring relationship with the designer.
