Amy Adams plays the title character, Giselle, in the 2007 romantic comedy Enchanted. Giselle begins as an animated fairy-tale princess in the kingdom of Andalasia before being sent into live-action New York City by an evil queen.
The film combines traditional animation, live action, musical comedy, and romance. Adams’s performance earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, and the role became a major turning point in her career. Giselle initially expects a storybook romance with Prince Edward, played by James Marsden, but her experiences in New York lead her toward Robert Philip, played by Patrick Dempsey.
Enchanted was directed by Kevin Lima and written by Bill Kelly. Its songs include “That’s How You Know,” “So Close,” and “Happy Working Song,” with music by Alan Menken and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz. The movie affectionately parodies Disney fairy-tale conventions while still using their musical and visual traditions.
