Which actress played Sophie in the 2008 film Mamma Mia!?
Answer
Amanda Seyfried
Answer
Amanda Seyfried
Amanda Seyfried played Sophie Sheridan in the 2008 film Mamma Mia!. Sophie is a 20-year-old bride-to-be living with her mother, Donna, on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi. After reading Donna’s old diary, Sophie discovers that three men could be her biological father and secretly invites all of them to her wedding.
The film adapts the stage musical Mamma Mia!, which was built around songs by the Swedish pop group ABBA. Its plot was created to connect songs such as “Dancing Queen,” “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!,” and “The Winner Takes It All” into a story about family, memory, and romance. Phyllida Lloyd directed both the stage production and the movie.
Seyfried’s role is sometimes confused with Meryl Streep’s, because Streep plays the film’s other central character, Donna. Christine Baranski plays Tanya, one of Donna’s former bandmates, while Lily James appears as a younger version of Donna in the 2018 sequel, not as Sophie in the original.
