Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft in the 2001 film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider.

Directed by Simon West, the film adapted the video-game character for a live-action action adventure. Its story follows Lara as she seeks ancient artifacts connected to the Illuminati and a mysterious planetary alignment. The production used locations including Cambodia and Iceland, and Jolie performed many of the film’s physical action scenes.

Jolie returned as Lara in the 2003 sequel, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider – The Cradle of Life. Alicia Vikander later played a different version of the character in the 2018 film Tomb Raider. These portrayals belong to separate film continuities, so the two actresses should not be treated as playing the same cinematic version of Lara.
