Lara Croft begins Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness in Paris.
The game opens with Lara involved in a tense confrontation with her former mentor, Werner von Croy. After his death, she becomes a suspect and moves through a darker investigation involving murders, secret societies, and the mysterious Obscura Paintings.
Paris serves as the game’s principal early setting, with locations such as streets, apartments, the Louvre, and underground areas shaping its distinctive urban atmosphere. Later sections move beyond France, including sequences in Prague, so the two cities are easy to confuse when recalling the full adventure.
The Angel of Darkness was released in 2003 and was the final Tomb Raider game developed by Core Design. Its ambitious story and new mechanics made it a notable, though controversial, transition point in the classic series.
