Which actress played FBI Special Agent Monica Reyes?
Answer
Annabeth Gish
Answer
Annabeth Gish
Annabeth Gish played FBI Special Agent Monica Reyes on The X-Files.
Reyes first appeared in the eighth-season episode “This Is Not Happening,” which aired in 2001. She was introduced as a longtime friend and investigative partner of John Doggett, played by Robert Patrick, and became one of the series’ principal FBI agents during its ninth season. Gish remained associated with the character when the show returned for later revival seasons.
The character was designed partly as a contrast to Doggett. While Doggett generally approached unexplained cases skeptically, Reyes was more open to paranormal, spiritual, and unconventional explanations, giving the show a believer-and-skeptic dynamic that echoed Mulder and Scully in a different form. Reyes was born and raised in Mexico City and had studied folklore and mythology at Brown University.
A common mix-up is confusing Gish with Laurie Holden, who played Marita Covarrubias, another recurring character connected to the conspiracy storyline. Barbara Hershey and Mimi Rogers also appeared in the wider X-Files universe, but neither portrayed Monica Reyes.
