Aisha Tyler played Charlie Wheeler, Ross’s paleontology colleague, in Friends.
Charlie is introduced as a paleontologist who works with Ross Geller. She first dates Joey Tribbiani, but her shared academic interests eventually bring her into a relationship with Ross. Tyler appeared in the ninth season and the early part of the tenth season.
The role was notable because Charlie was one of the show’s recurring romantic characters with a professional connection to Ross’s scientific career. Her storyline also created a temporary pairing between Charlie and Joey, despite their very different interests and conversational styles.
Tyler later became known for work as an actor, comedian, director, and television host. Charlie is sometimes confused with other Friends girlfriends, including Emily Waltham, played by Helen Baxendale, and Julie, played by Lauren Tom.
