Which actress did Beyoncé portray in Dreamgirls?

In the 2006 film Dreamgirls, Beyoncé portrayed the fictional singer Deena Jones.

Dreamgirls was directed by Bill Condon and adapted from the 1981 Broadway musical of the same name. The story follows a female singing group whose career changes as it moves from local performances to mainstream success.

Deena Jones is loosely associated with the rise of Diana Ross and the Supremes, although Dreamgirls is not a direct biography. Beyoncé performed several songs in the film, including “Listen,” which was written especially for the movie.

Jennifer Hudson played Effie White, while Beyoncé played Deena. Hudson won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance.
