Which actor's face was used for the Michael Myers mask in the 1978 film Halloween?

The story behind the answer

William Shatner's face was used for the Michael Myers mask in the 1978 film Halloween.

Production designer Tommy Lee Wallace found a Captain Kirk mask modeled on Shatner's face in a Hollywood Boulevard shop. The inexpensive mask came from a cast made for the 1975 horror film The Devil's Rain, then Wallace altered it for Michael Myers.

He enlarged and reshaped the eyeholes, removed the eyebrows and sideburns, changed the hair, and spray-painted the mask white. Those modifications transformed a recognizable Star Trek novelty mask into the blank, expressionless face associated with Myers.

A common mix-up is that Shatner did not play Michael Myers and did not appear in Halloween. Director John Carpenter even joked that he owed part of the film's success to Shatner, while also noting that the finished mask looked very little like him. The same original mask was reused in Halloween II, although lighting and wear made it appear different.
