Which actor voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars films?

Larry the Cable Guy voices Mater in Pixar’s Cars films.

Mater is a rusty tow truck from Radiator Springs and Lightning McQueen’s closest friend. His humor, loyalty, and distinctive country-comedy delivery made him one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.

Larry the Cable Guy is the stage name of Daniel Lawrence Whitney. The performer’s exaggerated rural persona helped shape Mater’s voice, but Mater is a fictional character rather than a direct autobiography of the comedian.

Mater becomes especially prominent in Cars 2, where his mistaken identity launches the spy plot. He also appears in Cars 3 and in short-form projects including Mater’s Tall Tales. The character’s name is a playful shortening of “tomater,” matching the film’s habit of giving cars pun-based names.
