Which actor provided the voice of Darth Vader?
Answer
James Earl Jones
Answer
James Earl Jones
James Earl Jones provided the voice of Darth Vader.
Jones supplied Vader’s deep, commanding vocal performance for the original Star Wars trilogy, creating one of cinema’s most recognizable villain voices. He was initially uncredited in Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, and received credit in Return of the Jedi in 1983.
David Prowse physically portrayed Vader in the original trilogy’s armor, while Bob Anderson performed some lightsaber-fight work. Because Prowse was the actor seen on set, he is sometimes incorrectly named as Vader’s voice. His West Country English accent was also a reason George Lucas chose a different voice performer.
Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker and later suited-up versions of Vader in the prequels, while Sebastian Shaw appeared as the unmasked Anakin in Return of the Jedi. Neither provided the iconic original voice.
