Which actor portrayed FBI Agent John Doggett? Robert Patrick portrayed him. Doggett became a major character on The X-Files after Fox Mulder’s disappearance at the end of the seventh season, serving as Dana Scully’s new investigative partner.
Patrick first appeared as Doggett in “Within,” the eighth-season premiere, which aired in 2000. The character was written as a pragmatic, skeptical counterpoint to Mulder. A former Marine and New York City detective, Doggett had joined the FBI after the death of his son and was initially assigned to lead the search for the missing Mulder.
Patrick was already widely known for playing the T-1000 in Terminator 2: Judgment Day. His earlier performance in Fire in the Sky helped attract The X-Files creator Chris Carter, who cast him as Doggett. Patrick remained a main cast member through seasons 8 and 9, appearing alongside Scully and later Monica Reyes. The role earned him a Saturn Award for Best Television Actor in 2001.
