Which actor portrayed Ben Linus in the TV series Lost?

The story behind the answer

Michael Emerson portrayed Ben Linus in the TV series Lost.

Ben first appears under the alias Henry Gale, claiming to be a survivor from Minnesota. The survivors eventually discover that he is connected to the Others, the secretive group living on the island. Emerson’s performance helped make Ben one of the show’s most important and unpredictable antagonistic figures, especially as the character’s motives and history were gradually revealed.

Emerson joined the regular cast during Lost’s second season after appearing as a guest star. He won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2009 for playing Ben. Terry O’Quinn, another prominent Lost actor, played John Locke, which is a frequent source of cast confusion. Emerson later appeared in the series finale and remained associated with the role throughout the show’s six-season run.
