Which actor plays Tolian Soran in Star Trek Generations? The answer is Malcolm McDowell.
Malcolm McDowell plays Dr. Tolian Soran, the main antagonist of Star Trek Generations, released in 1994. Soran is an El-Aurian scientist whose obsession with returning to the extradimensional Nexus drives him to destroy entire planetary systems.
The Nexus is a mysterious energy ribbon that gives those inside it an idealized experience of reality. Soran attempts to alter its path by destroying stars, placing him in conflict with both Captain Jean-Luc Picard and Captain James T. Kirk. The film is especially notable for bringing the original and Next Generation crews together.
McDowell’s casting can be confused with the film’s other major veteran actors. David Warner plays the El-Aurian refugee and scientist Gorkon, Christopher Plummer is not in the film, and F. Murray Abraham is likewise not Soran. McDowell reportedly requested that Soran have no alien makeup, partly to avoid lengthy makeup sessions, giving the villain his distinctive human appearance and spiked hair.
