Which actor plays Scout Master Randy Ward in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom?

Edward Norton plays Scout Master Randy Ward in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom.

Randy Ward is the leader of the Khaki Scout troop on New Penzance Island. When Sam Shakusky runs away with Suzy Bishop, Randy becomes involved in the search and in the increasingly chaotic effort to manage the scouts and protect them during the storm.

Norton’s performance is deliberately restrained and comic. Randy is presented as an earnest adult who tries to apply scouting procedures to a situation that becomes progressively more extraordinary. The role is one of several carefully cast supporting parts surrounding the young leads, Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward.

Moonrise Kingdom premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. Norton later appeared in another Anderson film, The Grand Budapest Hotel, but his role there is different, which can lead to confusion between the two collaborations.
