Liam Neeson plays Oskar Schindler in Steven Spielberg’s 1993 film Schindler’s List.
The film dramatizes the true story of Oskar Schindler, a German industrialist who employed Jewish workers during the Second World War and gradually used his influence and money to protect them from extermination. His efforts ultimately saved more than a thousand people, later known as Schindler’s Jews.
Neeson’s performance presents Schindler as a charismatic businessman whose motives change over time. The film was adapted from Thomas Keneally’s 1982 historical novel Schindler’s Ark, published in the United States as Schindler’s List. Spielberg filmed much of the movie in Kraków, including locations connected with the historical events.
The film is often confused with a conventional wartime action drama, but it is primarily a historical drama about moral choice, bureaucracy, and individual intervention. Neeson received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for the role.
