In Steven Spielberg’s Hook, what is the name of the pirate ship commanded by Captain Hook?

The story behind the answer

In Steven Spielberg’s Hook, Captain Hook commands the pirate ship Jolly Roger.

The name comes from the traditional term for a pirate flag, usually represented by a skull and crossbones on a dark background. In the film, the Jolly Roger is Captain Hook’s headquarters in Neverland and the setting for many of the story’s confrontations with Peter Banning and the Lost Boys.

Hook, released in 1991, imagines Peter Pan as an adult lawyer who has forgotten his childhood identity. After Captain Hook abducts Peter’s children, Peter returns to Neverland and must recover the imagination and courage associated with his former life. The ship therefore functions as both a physical location and a symbol of Hook’s continuing control over Neverland.

The Jolly Roger is sometimes confused with the names of famous pirate ships from other stories, such as the Black Pearl in the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Those belong to different fictional worlds. In Spielberg’s Peter Pan film, Captain Hook’s ship retains the classic name Jolly Roger.
