Which actor plays Michael Corleone throughout The Godfather trilogy?

The story behind the answer

Al Pacino plays Michael Corleone throughout The Godfather trilogy.

Pacino portrays Michael in The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, and The Godfather Part III. Michael begins as a decorated Marine and the son who appears most distant from the family’s criminal business, but he eventually becomes its leader.

Pacino’s performance in the first film earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor. He received another nomination for Best Actor for The Godfather Part II and a third for Best Actor for The Godfather Part III.

Michael is sometimes confused with Vito, his father, who is played by Marlon Brando in the first film and Robert De Niro in the second. Pacino’s role is the trilogy’s continuous central performance.
