Daniel Craig plays journalist Mikael Blomkvist in David Fincher's The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
Fincher's 2011 film adapts Stieg Larsson's 2005 Swedish novel. Craig's Blomkvist is a disgraced investigative journalist who accepts an assignment from wealthy industrialist Henrik Vanger: investigate the disappearance of Vanger's niece, Harriet, who vanished 40 years earlier.
Blomkvist eventually works with Lisbeth Salander, a brilliant computer hacker played by Rooney Mara. Their investigation uncovers connections among the Vanger family, a series of murders, and long-buried secrets. Craig brought a grounded, world-weary quality to the journalist rather than playing Blomkvist as a conventional action hero.
The casting can cause confusion because the film includes several prominent Scandinavian actors, including Stellan Skarsgård as Martin Vanger and Robin Wright as Erika Berger. Michael Nyqvist played Blomkvist in the 2009 Swedish adaptation, not Fincher's English-language version.
