Which actor plays Ed Kemper in Mindhunter?

Cameron Britton plays Ed Kemper in Mindhunter. His portrayal of the towering California serial killer became one of the series’ most memorable performances and earned Britton a Primetime Emmy nomination.

Kemper appears as a recurring character whom Holden Ford and Bill Tench interview in prison. His intelligence, calm manner, and willingness to discuss his crimes make him an unusually revealing subject for the FBI agents’ new behavioral research. In the story, he is the first major killer to assist their interviews.

The television character is based on Edmund Kemper, who was convicted of murdering his grandparents, mother, and several young women. Mindhunter dramatizes the interviews rather than presenting a documentary record, using them to show how the agents develop language and methods for studying serial offenders.

Britton is sometimes confused with the show’s three principal investigators: Jonathan Groff plays Holden Ford, Holt McCallany plays Bill Tench, and Anna Torv plays Wendy Carr. Britton’s role is the imprisoned interview subject, not an FBI agent.
