Which actor played Trevor Collins-Newsworthy in a recurring role?

Brian Stokes Mitchell played Trevor Collins-Newsworthy in a recurring role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Trevor was introduced as Hilary Banks’ boyfriend and later fiancé. He worked as a television news anchor at the station where Hilary became a weather reporter, giving the character a professional connection to her increasingly ambitious career. Mitchell appeared across a storyline spanning the show’s third season and the opening of season 4.

The character is particularly memorable because his romance with Hilary ends abruptly. Trevor proposes to her on live television, but dies after a botched bungee-jumping stunt before their wedding can take place. The storyline mixes the show’s broad comedy with a surprisingly serious treatment of grief and sudden loss.

Mitchell was already an experienced television and stage performer. He later became especially celebrated for Broadway work, including Ragtime, for which he won the Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. John Witherspoon, Jim Meskimen, and Perry Moore played other roles or appeared in other contexts, but none played Trevor.
