Which actor played the title character in the 2017 film Logan?

The story behind the answer

Hugh Jackman played the title character in the 2017 film Logan.

Logan is a mature, western-influenced superhero drama centered on the mutant formerly known as Wolverine. Jackman had played Logan in the X-Men film series since 2000, making the role one of the defining performances of his career. In Logan, the character is older, physically weakened, and living in a near-future world where mutants have nearly disappeared.

James Mangold directed the film and co-wrote it with Scott Frank and Michael Green. Patrick Stewart plays an aged Charles Xavier, while Dafne Keen plays Laura, a young mutant connected to Logan. Although Logan is part of the X-Men film continuity, its tone and timeline distinguish it from the earlier ensemble movies. The film is often confused with The Wolverine, another Jackman-led solo movie directed by Mangold, but the two films have different stories and settings.
